Interior designers in Pune charge in a few different ways, and the headline number is rarely comparable between quotes. A 10% fee that covers design and execution is a very different thing from ₹150 per sq ft for drawings alone. This guide explains each model and what it normally includes.

Percentage of project cost
The fee is a share of the total project cost. For example, a ₹20 lakh project at 10% gives a design fee of ₹2 lakh. Ask whether that ₹2 lakh sits inside the ₹20 lakh or is added on top, whether GST applies, and how the fee changes if the scope or budget changes.
Per sq ft design fee
Common for design-only work. Check whether the rate includes design options, 3D views, drawings, material lists and site visits, and how the area is measured (carpet, built-up or only the rooms being designed).
Fixed room or scope fee
A single fee for a defined scope. A good quote names the room, the work included, how many rounds of changes are allowed, and whether purchasing or execution support is part of it.
Consultation
A paid session for focused advice. Marked-up drawings, a written recommendation, several rooms or a full site check usually cost more than the basic range.
Extras that are often billed separately: expert fees (structural, MEP, Vastu), government or PMC/PCMC approval fees, additional changes or site visits, mark-ups on products bought for you, and GST. Make sure your quote says which are included.
